The text, “Máhyeqs and the Mouse” can be found in the St̓át̓imcets grammar by van Eijk. It was printed interlinearly in the author’s own Americanist style phonetic orthography, with affix boundary markers indicated. An appendix of the same book gives a comparison of this writing system (used by the Mount Currie Community school and the Lillooet Tribal Council) with the practical orthography developed by Bouchard. The left column shows van Eijk-Mount Currie orthography, the right column is my transliteration of the story into Bouchard’s system. This page uses no characters outside the Unicode standard. |
