Below is an example of a (Standard Unicode) Yoruba sentence in three fonts: Aboriginal Serif, Aboriginal Sans, and Lucida Sans Unicode. I typed this sentence in Word 2003. Notice that in the first two examples, the dots and accents are all properly placed, even though o-grave-dot and e-acute-dot are using combining accents. The final example in Lucida – which is not an Open Type font – has quite poorly placed dots. With appropriate software and Unicode fonts, there is no need to resort to personalised 8-bit fonts. |
