This is a portion of a story collected by ᑎᓇ ᐎᓐ (Tina Wynne) entitled ᐎᓴᑫᒐᒃ ᐁᑯ ᒪᑲ ᒪᐃᑲᓇᒃ (Wesakaychak and the Wolves). It is written in the orthographical style of the Moose Cree dialect although it is published by the Hishoonikun Education Authority in Kashechewan, where the dialect is a blend of Moose Cree and Northern Ontario Swampy Cree. The text is not pointed – there are no long vowel diacritics (ᐋ) or h-finals (ᐦ) – except for the preverb ᒫᒋ /māci-/ (begin to) which uses the dot to distinguish it from the preverb ᒪᒋ /maci-/ (bad). This page uses no characters outside the Unicode standard. ᐎᓴᑫᒐᒃ ᐁᑯ ᒪᑲ ᒪᐃᑲᓇᒃᐅᒪ ᐊᑕᓗᑫᐎᓐ ᐊᓕᒧᒪᑲᓋᓐ ᓇᐯᐤ ᐎᓴᑫᒐᒃ ᐁ ᐃᔑᓂᑲᓱᑦ᙮ ᑭᒋ ᐌᔅᑲᒡ ᒪᑲ, ᑭ ᐃᑕᑯᐸᓐ ᓇᐯᐤ ᐎᓴᑫᒐᒃ ᐁ ᐃᔑᓂᑲᓱᑦ᙮ ᐎᓇ ᒪᑲ ᒪᐗᒡ ᑭ ᑲᔅᑯᑯᐸᓐ ᐁ ᒪᒪᑕᐎᔑᒋᑫᑦ ᑲ ᑭ ᑕᔑᒋᒃ᙮ ᑭᒥᓜᓕᑕᒻ ᐁ ᒣᑕᐌᑦ ᐁ ᒪᑕᐅᑐᑕᒃ ᒪᐃᑲᓇ ᐅᒋ ᓀᔅᑕ ᐊᑎᒶ᙮ ᐌᔅᑲᒡ ᒪᐃᑲᓇᒃ ᓀᔅᑕ ᐊᑎᒶᒃ ᒧᓇ ᐅᒋ ᐱᑐᔑᓇᑯᓯᐗᒃ᙮ ᐯᔭᑾᓄᒃ ᑭᑕᔑᑫᐗᒃ ᓀᔅᑕ ᑭ ᒪᒪᐎ ᑕᔑᑫᐗᒃ ᑎᐱᓚᐌ ᐅᐗᑎᒧᐗᒃ᙮ ᐯᔭᑾ ᐁ ᑭᔑᑲᒃ, ᐎᓴᑫᒐᒃ ᐱᒧᑌᑯᐸᓐ ᓚᓕ ᓴᑲᐃᑲᓂᒃ ᐁ ᑲᓇᐗᐸᒪᑦ ᓇᓇᑲᐤ ᐱᓓᓱᐗ ᐊᓂᑭ ᑐᐗᒃ ᔑᔑᐸᒃ ᓀᔅᑕ ᓂᔅᑲᒃ᙮ ᑭ ᐃᑕᐤ ᐱᑯ ᐊᓐᑕ ᐁᑲᓇᐗᐸᒪᑦ᙮ ᒧᓇ ᐅᒋ ᐎᑲᑴᓂᐸᔦᐤ ᔕᑯᒡ ᒧᓇ ᐅᒋ ᔑᐗᑌᐤ᙮ ᓇᑫ ᒪᑲ ᐎᓴᑫᒐᒃ ᑭ ᐊᑎ ᑲᑭᐌᔅᑲᐤ ᐅᒣᔅᑲᓇᒃ ᓀᔅᑕ ᑭᓇᑭᔅᑲᐌᐤ ᒪᐃᑲᓇ᙮ ᑭ ᐃᑗᐤ, “ᒥᓗ ᑭᔑᑲᐤ!” ᒪᐃᑲᓐ ᑭ ᐃᑗᐤ, “ᒥᓗ ᑭᔑᑲᐤ!” ᐎᓴᑫᒐᒃ ᑭᑲᑴᒋᒣᐤ ᒪᐃᑲᓇ ᑕᓂ ᐁᑐᑕᒥᓕᒋ ᐊᓄᒡ ᑲ ᑭᔑᑲᓕᒃ᙮ ᒪᐃᑲᓐ ᒪᑲ ᑭᓇᔅᑴᐊᔑᐁᐤ, “ᒧᓇᐌᔅ ᓂᒥᓗᐸᓕᓐ᙮ ᓂᑕᔭᐗᐗᒃ ᒥᒉᑦ ᔑᔑᐸᒃ ᓀᔅᑕ ᓂᔅᑲᒃ ᓂᑭᒃ᙮ ᓂᑕᑎᑭᐗᓐ ᒪᑲ ᑭᒋ ᒥᓇᐗᓱᔭᓐ ᐊᑎᑦ!” ᐎᓴᑫᒐᒃ ᒪᑲ ᑭ ᐗᐸᒣᐤ ᒪᐃᑲᓇ ᐅᐗᔭᓂᓕᐤ ᓀᔅᑕ ᑭ ᒥᓗᔑᔑᓂᐗ᙮ ᒣᑾᒡ ᒪᑲ ᐁ ᐊᔭᒥᑐᒋᒃ ᑫᓕᑯᒃ ᑭ ᑲᓇᐗᐸᒣᐤ ᒪᐃᑲᓇ ᐅᐗᔭᓂᓕᐤ᙮ ᐎᓴᑫᒐᒃ ᑭ ᐃᑌᓕᑕᒻ ᑭᒋ ᐅᔭᓯᑐᑕᐗᑦ ᐅᐅ ᒪᐃᑲᓐ, ᔕᑯᒡ ᒪᑲ ᐁᓕᐌᒃ ᑭᔑᓇᑯᓯᓂᓕᐗ ᓇᔅᐱᒡ ᐁ ᑲᑫᑕᐌᓕᑕᒥᓕᒋ᙮ ᒪᐃᑲᓐ ᒪᑲ ᒧᓇ ᐎᔅᑲᒡ ᐅᒋ ᑕᐺᔦᓕᒣᐤ, ᓀᔅᑕ ᐎᓴᑫᒐᒃ ᒧᓇ ᐅᒋ ᑫᒋᓇᐅ ᑭᒋ ᑭ ᐅᔭᓯᑐᑕᐗᑦ ᐅᐅ ᒪᐃᑲᓇ, ᔕᑯᒡ ᒪᑲ ᑭ ᑯᒋᑕᐤ᙮ ᐁᑯ ᐎᓴᑫᒐᒃ ᑲ ᐃᑎᑎᓱᑦ ᑭᒋ ᓇᑐᒪᑦ ᐎᑭᒃ ᐊᓂᐃ ᒪᐃᑲᓇ᙮ ᐁᑯᑕᓐᑌ ᐱᑯ ᑫ ᑭ ᑐᑕᐗᑦ ᑭᒋ ᐅᔭᓯᑐᑕᐗᑦ ᒪᐃᑲᓐ᙮ ᑭ ᐃᑗᐤ ᒪᑲ ᒪᐃᑲᓇ, “ᑭ ᓇᑐᒥᑎᓐ ᑭᒋ ᐯᒋ ᐃᑐᑌᔭᒃ ᓂᑭᒃ ᑭᒋ ᐯᒋ ᑲᓇᐗᐸᒪᒋᒃ ᑕᓐᑕᑐ ᐊᔭᐗᑭᒃ ᔑᔑᐸᒃ ᓀᔅᑕ ᓂᔅᑲᒃ᙮” ᐎᓴᑫᒐᒃ ᒪᑲ ᑭ ᓇᑐᒣᐤ ᑭᑕᑭᔭ ᑲᐗᑯᒥᑐᓕᒋ ᒪᐃᑲᓇ ᓀᔅᑕ ᑲᐗᑯᒥᑐᓕᒋ ᐊᑎᒶ ᐊᔑᑦ᙮ ᒪᐃᑲᓐ ᒪᑲ ᑭ ᐃᑗᐤ, “ᐁᐁ, ᑲ ᐯᒋ ᐃᑐᑕᓇᓐ ᔕᑯᒡ ᒪᑲ ᑲᐎᓇ ᑾᓐᑕᐤ ᑐᑕᐎᓇᓐ – ᐎᓴᑫᒐᒃ!” “ᑕᐃᑾᓐ ᐁᔭᐱᔕᔑᒃ ᓂᒧᐎᓐ᙮ ᐁᑯ ᒪᑲ ᐯᑕᒃ ᑭᓂᒧᐎ ᐎᓚᒋᑲᓂᐗᐤ ᓀᔅᑕ ᑲᐅᓚᔅᑕᓐ ᒥᔅᑕᐃ ᒥᒋᒻ,” ᑭ ᐃᑗᐤ ᐎᓴᑫᒐᒃ᙮ |
